In this project, medical students use VR headsets and can practise treating various emergency patients in a protected environment. In medicine, this is still rather futuristic, but VR glasses are very popular with gamers all over the world. Clinical emergencies such as a heart attack are dealt with during the emergency medicine block practical course in the form of individually completed virtual simulation scenarios using virtual reality goggles.
Visual and acoustic impressions are extremely lifelike and good communication with the patient is just as important as targeted diagnostics and consistent treatment. In particular, the practical application of the theoretical content learned during the course can be better learned in this way. Furthermore, initial experience does not have to be gained on real patients.
It is interesting to ask how realistic and helpful students find these simulations after their own VR session and whether the performance in the simulations that also take place on the full-scale simulator is influenced by previous VR simulations.
