Patient-centered Application

preSurgicalVR – Pre-surgery VR for Patient Relaxation

Virtual nature experiences in virtual reality have been shown to have a calming effect and can help people relax in emotionally challenging situations. At the Clinic for General, Visceral, Vascular and Transplant Surgery, patients now have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a calming natural environment using a VR headset before undergoing surgery. The aim of the project is to explore whether the use of VR technology can reduce preoperative anxiety and positively influence the postoperative recovery process. Initial feedback shows great interest and a positive response – many patients find the experience pleasant and beneficial. Whether virtual relaxation will be permanently integrated into everyday clinical practice remains the subject of further research.
